1. Information we collect
Information you provide
- Account information: email address, password (stored only in hashed form by our authentication provider), display name, username/handle, account role (Business or Creator), and the location you provide.
- Profile information: details you add to your profile, such as a bio, location, and display elements.
- Listings and applications: Gig and Contest listings, prices, criteria, applications, pitches, and related details.
- User content: videos and other content you upload, together with file metadata such as file name, size, and type.
- Messages: messages you send to other users through the Platform.
- Support communications: information you provide when you contact us, including reports you submit.
Information collected automatically
- Usage and device data: basic technical information such as browser type, approximate activity on the Platform, and log information generated when you use the service.
- Local/session storage: we use your browser's storage to keep you signed in and to operate core features (see Section 10).
Information from third parties
Our payment processor (Stripe) provides us with limited information needed to operate payments and payouts — for example, a customer or connected-account identifier, subscription status, and whether a Creator's payout setup is complete. We do not receive or store full payment card numbers or full bank account numbers.
2. How we use information
- WE DO NOT SELL USER DATA <3;
- To create and manage your account and provide the Platform;
- To operate the marketplace — displaying listings and profiles, matching Businesses and Creators, enabling applications, submissions, messaging, and content review;
- To process subscriptions, charges, and payouts through Stripe;
- To communicate with you, including service messages and responses to support and reports;
- To maintain safety and integrity — preventing fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms of Service, and enforcing those Terms;
- To comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests; and
- To understand and improve the Platform.
3. Consent
We collect, use, and disclose your personal information with your consent, or as otherwise permitted or required by law. By creating an account and using the Platform, you consent to this Policy. Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it (see Section 8), subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice; withdrawing consent may mean we can no longer provide some or all of the Platform.
4. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as described below:
- With other users, as needed for the marketplace. For example, a Business can see a Creator's profile, handle, application, and submitted content; a Creator can see a Business's listing and profile; and messages are shared with the user you send them to.
- With service providers (processors) who operate the Platform on our behalf:
- Stripe — payment processing, subscriptions, and creator payouts (including identity and bank details that Creators provide directly to Stripe);
- Our hosting, database, authentication, and storage provider — to store accounts, content, and Platform data and to run the service.
- For legal and safety reasons: to comply with applicable law or lawful requests, to enforce our Terms, to detect or prevent fraud or abuse, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of LocalUGC, our users, or the public.
- In a business transfer: in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.
5. Payments and payouts
Payments and payouts are handled by Stripe. When a Business pays, or a Creator receives a payout, the related card, banking, and identity information is collected and processed by Stripe under Stripe's own privacy policy and terms. LocalUGC stores only limited references (such as identifiers and status) and does not store full card or bank account numbers. Creators receiving payouts complete Stripe Connect onboarding directly with Stripe.
6. Retention and deletion
We keep personal information for as long as needed to provide the Platform and for the purposes described in this Policy, and then delete or anonymize it, except where we must retain it to comply with legal, accounting, or reporting obligations or to resolve disputes and enforce our agreements.
Uploaded Gig videos are deleted on approval. A video you upload for a Gig is stored only to allow the Business to review it. Once the Business approves the deliverable, the file is permanently deleted from our storage and cannot be recovered (files are also removed when replaced by a new upload). Businesses should download and save any copy they need before approving. See Section 5 of the Terms of Service.
You can delete your account at any time from your account settings. Deleting your account removes your profile and associated data from active use; some information may persist temporarily in routine backups or be retained where required by law or for legitimate business purposes such as completed transaction records.
7. Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect personal information, including encryption in transit, access controls and row-level database security, and reliance on Stripe for payment data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your password and account credentials confidential.
8. Your rights and choices
Subject to applicable law, you may:
- access and review the personal information we hold about you;
- request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information;
- update much of your information directly in your profile and account settings;
- withdraw consent or close your account; and
- ask questions or make a complaint about how we handle your information.
To exercise these rights, contact us at localugcsupport@gmail.com. We will respond within the timeframes required by applicable law. You also have the right to contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
9. International data transfers
Our service providers, including Stripe and our hosting provider, may store and process information in countries outside your province or outside Canada (for example, in the United States). Where that happens, your information may be subject to the laws of those countries, including lawful access by courts, law enforcement, and government authorities there. By using the Platform, you consent to this processing.
10. Cookies and local storage
We use your browser's local and session storage (and similar technologies) for essential purposes such as keeping you signed in and operating core features of the Platform. We do not use the Platform to run third-party advertising trackers. Blocking or clearing browser storage may prevent parts of the Platform from working.
11. Children
The Platform is intended only for users who are at least 18 years old and the age of majority in their province or territory. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under that age. If you believe a minor has provided us personal information, contact us at localugcsupport@gmail.com and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and post the new version on this page. Material changes may be communicated through the Platform. Your continued use of the Platform after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
13. Contact and privacy requests
For privacy questions, access or correction requests, or complaints, contact our privacy contact at localugcsupport@gmail.com. For reporting or any kind of support, you can reach us at the same address.
